Year Long Syllabus and Science Study Session/Online Book Info

Science Study sessions are every Tuesday morning at 8:15.  I will be available 3 Tuesdays a month (I am one of the Beta Club moderators and need to attend meetings on the first Tuesday each month).

Today the girls presented their Chemistry of Baking projects.  Morning classes were cut short due to speakers, so the paragraph is due at the beginning of class tomorrow.  Boys need to bring their projects tomorrow.

Today we did demonstrations of 2 types of chemical reactions (synthesis of rust from stell wool and decomposition of water into hydrogen and oxygen) and reviewed the 3 types of chemical reactions.

Homework:  Bring in the research of your active ingredient along with your recipe

There will be a study session on Tuesday at 8:15.  Anyone who missed a lab or the quick lab from Thursday should come in to make those up.  Have a great weekend!!!

Chemistry of Baking: November 16 (girls) and 17 (boys) see yesterday for instructions and research links.  Please see me if you are having difficulties getting materials!

1.  Warm-Up:  What are the 3 main types of chemical reactions?  Synthesis, decomposition and replacement (displacement): single and double

2.  Went over counting atoms worksheet

3.  Quick Lab p.400 using gumdrop candies instead of clay.  We reproduced our models on paper and labeled whether the equations showed synthesis, decomposition or single displacement.  This was turned in for a quiz grade.

1.  Warm-Up:  Name some pieces of evidence that show a chemical reaction has occurred.  Change in energy (temperature, light, sound), gas formation, change in odor, solid formation (precipitate) and change in color.

2.  OL:  read pgs. 398-410 and fill in graphic organizer Download Classifying Chemical Reactions and worksheet on the back

3.  Start SR p. 401 #2-6

AC:  Start and finish conclusion and start SR p. 401 when finished.
