What is due tomorrow?

Your POWERPOINT!!!   Everyone's power point is due and will be saved to my classroom computer tomorrow regardless of when your presentation date is!  

 

Presentation dates were posted today.  

 

10 pts. off per day that your power point is late (because this is a TEST grade)!  

 

Presentations begin tomorrow!   This is a rite of passage!   You will be SO proud of yourself once you accomplish this milestone of a real research presentation to our class!   :)

Tuesday, February 28:  Ms. Fargason will be subbing for me today as I have a doctor's appt. and I have to take my son to a doctor's appt., too...   she will be sharing about her recent trip to China and getting us started with Discovery Atlas:  China Revealed

Wednesday, February 29:   Happy Leap Year!!!   :)   China Revealed;  LAST CHANCE to ask questions re: project;   PRESENTATIONS DUE TOMORROW!   NO exceptions!!!   10 pts. off per day that they are late!

Wednesday, Feb. 22:  Check CRCT work from last week/yesterday;   Discovery Atlas:  India Revealed

Thursday, Feb. 23: Finish Discovery Atlas: India Revealed;   Video Quiz;   Do you realize that your Asia presentation project is due exactly one week from today?!!   Don't neglect it!

Friday, Feb. 24:  Discuss Project Progress;  Complete Culture power point/discussion

Research Notecard Check TOMORROW

By tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 9, all students should have at least 25-30 facts/bullet points on their research notecards when I check during class.   Progress will be posted on Pinnacle.   If you are behind on your research, CATCH UP TONIGHT!!!

 

***FYI, by the end of our research, you should have between 50-60 facts on notecards about your various subtopics/research questions.   This will help me be sure that you have enough information to create your power point and presentation successfully.

You MUST have: 

1 Cobb Virtual Library Source

1 Primary Source (firsthand account... historical photo, document, interview, diary entry, newspaper article, etc.)

1 book source

1 internet source

***You may CERTAINLY have more than these 4 minimum requirements.  You need to use as many sources as necessary in order to complete your research!

Desperate Plea for Classroom Supplies :)

Dear Parents,

Your students have worked so hard that we are running out of supplies!   :)   I am in desperate need of #2 pencils, colored pencils, and washable markers to make it through the rest of the year...   when you are out shopping and happen to see some of these items, please consider donating them to your child's social studies teacher for use in class.   :)

How to link a video clip from home to your power point

Info from Mrs. Pease-- Students have been asking... I have never done this but this came from another media specialist:

 

One solution is to...  go to www.zamzar.com and paste in the YouTube URL then choose the type of file you would like to have... for instance to import into Movie Maker choose a WMV file - enter your email address and the link arrives pretty quickly to download your file -- this solution doesn't require any software installed on your computer - you do have to know the URL for the video though. Hope this helps!

The students may need to do it at home to find out the youtube URL...

www.clipconverter.cc  is another site that will help you convert video for use in your power point.   It has to be done at home. 

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE VIDEO CLIPS IN YOUR POWERPOINT!!!   It certainly is NOT a requirement.   In fact, if you do choose to use video, the time of your video clip will not count towards your presentation time.   Video clips should be no longer than 2 minutes.
