October is "National Bullying Prevention Month"?!? Hightower will be promoting this theme by brining "Rachel's Challenge" to the HTMS community,
Rachel Scott was the first person killed in a school shooting at Columbine High School on April 20, 1999. Her acts of kindness and compassion coupled with the contents of her six diaries have become the foundation for “Rachel’s Challenge”, one of the most poignant school programs designed to reduce aggression and bullying while educating students around themes of compassion, tolerance, and acceptance.
On October 17th, Hightower Trail students and community members will have the opportunity to experience the atmosphere, unity and inspiration created by "Rachel's Challenge" due to a generous grant by the HTMS PTSA.
The PTSA and School Counseling Department of Hightower have arranged for the “Rachel’s Challenge” staff to deliver an intense 1 hour school program to students and staff on October 17th. The presentation will be followed by a separate interactive 90 minute training session involving both adult and student leaders that shows how to sustain the momentum created by the assembly.
Additionally, an evening community presentation is scheduled for 7:00 PM in the HTMS theater on the same date. "Rachel's Challenge" is a nationally renowned bullying prevention assembly which promises to deliver a message you won't want to miss!
