Week of May 4th

This week 8th grade students are finishing up on their watercolor self-portraits.

Students in the 7th grade are finishing their Makara inspired creatures on Friday. Students are using a mixture watercolor, ink, and printmaking for this project.

In the 6th grade students have turned in their Mayan Name Plate for a grade and now they are working on the 2009-2010 Hightower Trail Calendar Contest.

Week of April 27th

Hello everyone, my name is Mrs. Payne and I was fortunate to do my student teaching with Mrs. Condon this past year. I will be here until the end of the school year and if you have any questions or concerns you can reach me at brandi04ksu@yahoo.com and Mrs. Condon at judith.condon@cobbk12.org.

This week 8th graders are going to be painting their color scheme vessels and beginning a new lesson on portraiture.

Seventh graders are turning in their ceramic coy fish today for a grade and tomorrow we will begin a new lesson on mythological creatures in Asia.

In 6th grade students are working on their Bunyip creatures and learning how to use oil pastels correctly.

Week of April 19th

ALL YOUNGMASTERS ART ORDERS ARE DUE ON APRIL 30th!!!!!!!  HELP SUPPORT THE ART PROGRAM AT HIGHTOWER!!!!!


Friday, April 24th is my last day before leaving on maternity leave.  My student teacher from earlier in the year, Ms. Brandi Payne, will be taking over for me to end out the year.  It has been a pleasure teaching you!

8th grade students are matting their photoshop projects and unifying a frame for display.  Students will then begin to paint their color scheme vessels which are due next week.

7th grade students have turned in their Asian paintings and are now working on painting their coy fish ceramic sculptures. Completed sculptures are due on Monday.

6th grade students have sculpted their Mayan codex name plates and are now moving into studying Australia.  They have learned the legend of the Bunyip and are designing their own Bunyip creatures.

NIGHT OF THE ARTS...2009

Hightower Trail Middle School presents the annual "Night of the Arts" celebration on Thursday, April 16th from 6:00-9:00 p.m.. Join us for an evening of band, orchestra, chorus and drama performances, an art show, interactive art demonstrations, a cake walk and bake sale and more!  The event welcomes students, parents and the community!  Please see schedules and event descriptions below for details. Week of March 30th

8th grade students are finishing up the creation of their color scheme vessels in clay and will be illustrating art quotes towards the end of the week. THEY WILL HAVE A COLOR SCHEME QUIZ ON THURSDAY!!!!

7th grade students are finshing up their Coy fish sculptures.  On Wed., we will begin a short unit on art aesthetics and will answer the question "What does art help us see?".

6th grade students continue on their Amazon insect prints and will be working on unified borders on Tuesday and Wednesday.

STUDENTS WHO HAVE NOT HAD ART THIS YEAR!!!!!

Any student who has not had art class this year is invited to come to the art room on the afternoons of Monday, March 23rd and Tuesday, March 24th until 6 p.m. to design an artwork for Night of the Arts and Young Masters!  Please email Ms. Condon at judith.condon@cobbk12.org with any questions!

Sixth grade students are beginning with a project on radial design inspired by ancient Incan suns.

Seventh grade students are beginning a study of East Asia and are creating symbolic dragons.

Eighth grade students are studying the history of letter illumination.

Week of March 9th

6th Grade Art students are working on Incan Sun designs based on radial balance. This is a group project!

8th Grade Art students have finished the paper mache process on their sculptures and are now ready to start painting! Finished sculptures are due on Friday.

7th grade Art students have finished their Manga comics and are now going to explore space through one and two point perspective designs.

ALL EXTRA CREDIT IS DUE ON WEDNESDAY!!!!!  LAST DAY OF CLASS IS FRIDAY!!!!!!!

Week of Feb. 23rd

6th grade students have finished their Inuit amulets and are doing a 2 day study of art careers.  We will then be mving on with our study of the art of South America.

7th grade students are painting their African masks and at the end of the week will bein a unit comparing and contrasting Asian and Western cartoons.

8th grade students have completed their "Dear Mr. President..." paintings and are now designing entries for the Doodle4Google competition.  Towards the end of this week we will begin a sculpture unit.

Week of February 9th

Sixth grade students are creating watercolor paintings in the style of Columbian artist, Fernando Botero.

Eighth grade students are working on a project entitled "Dear Mr. President....". They have written letters and are now transforming those letters into symbolic paintings.

Seventh grade students are working on Asian and Western paintings with a focus on tradition and technique.
