Pope H.S. Freshman Curriculum Guide

The Freshman course guide (Class of 2013) is now available on the Pope Website.  You can access it under the "Academics" tab on the Pope website or by clicking on the link below:

 

Freshman Pope Curriculum Guide

 

Due to costs, Pope will not be printing hard copies.  It will be available only in the electronic form.  Mrs. Reichenbach, 8th grade Hightower counselor, will have a few copies available in her office for those who do not have Internet access.

 

Draft high school registration forms will be coming home Feb. 24 for parents to review and help with the selection of elective classes.

 

Pope Parent Night for help with curriculum information and registration will be at Pope High School Feb. 25 at 7:00 p.m.

 

Schedules are due back to the 8th grade homeroom teacher by March 6, 2009.

2008-2009 Rising 9th Grade Transition Activities

Download 0809student_transition_activities.doc Please download the activities calendar and mark these dates on your personal calendar.  These are important activities to help transition your child from Hightower Trail to Pope High School.  Note parent presentations and high school registration information including student Orientation night at Pope. 

Students not attending Pope may find high school transition information on the middle and high school websites of their receiving high schools. Magnet schools have their own agendas and separate Open House dates.  Please see my webpost regarding Magnet Schools.

Magnet Schools Information

Download ms_flyer_200809.doc Click to find out more information on the six Magnet High Schools available to all Cobb County eighth grade students.  If you are interested in your child applying for a Magnet High School, please remember the absolute deadline date of Dec. 5, 2008.  It is highly recommended that you attend the Open Houses for the high schools of interest.  You may also email the directors listed on the flyer for more information.  I have also included the PowerPoint presentation that was shown to the students that explains more about the Magnets.  Additionally, remember the date of the required PSAT test at Wheeler H. New Graduation Rule Handbook and Summary

Download grad_guidance_doc_revised_01.09.08.doc Warning before downloading to print, this document is 138 pages long.  It is the complete new Department of Education Graduation Rule Handbook.  Attached is a summary.Download grad_rule_summary  Please note that although students now have an option of electives which may or may not include a required foreign language, students planning to enter or transfer into a University System of Georgia institution MUST take two units of the same foreign language.  Some out of state university sytems require a minimum of three units of foreign language.  Please review your potential university's policy regarding foreign language.
