Middle School Evening At Pope H.S. for rising 9th Graders May 4

May 4, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. at Pope High School is their annual rising 9th grader evening.  Parents will go to the theater and students will go to the Cafe' for meetings and information.  Represenatives will be there from clubs, sports, and music.  Students will visit their future homerooms and see a student Ambassador presentation.

Pope speaks to 8th graders 2-14-11

Counselors from Pope H.S. will be here at Hightower to talk to 8th graders about high school on Feb. 14.  Teachers are in the process of making recommendations and draft schedules will be distributed to students on Feb. 28 to take home for parents and students to select their electives and approve the classes.  Draft schedules are due back to homeroom teachers the morning of March 10, 2011.

Morning Study Skills Sessions

I will offer Thursday morning study skills sessions at 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 28, Nov. 4, 11, 18, Dec. 2, 9 and 16. This is a seven week series with some "cross-over" of information.  Students are welcome to come to as many as they like.  Topics include notetaking, organization, memory tools, reading for understanding, time management, and test-taking strategies.  This is a video-based program with follow up exercises and handouts. 

Magnet H.S. Information for Interested 8th grade parents and students

A magnet school representative will speak to Hightower 8th graders about magnet high school options on Oct. 28, 2010 at 9:30 am. Interested parents may attend also.  Students will receive a flyer of information.  You may access their video and PPT at http://www.cobbk12.org/schools/magnet/  You will also find each magnet school's information along with Open House dates, applications, requirements for admission, and contact persons' email and phone numbers.  Please direct all your questions to them.  They are happy to hear from interested parents and students.

"sexting" a trend among young people
