FRENCH:

This week we are wrapping up Theme 5 ("Going Places") by learning how to talk about the WEATHER and SEASONS!

Monday 1/23 - Friday 1/27

FRENCH:

We wrapped up our detailed study of ASKING FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION... in other words "who, what, when, where, why, and how?" We then did a comprehensive review of how to use the 3 main verb families in French in the Present Tense: -ER Verbs, -IR Verbs, and -RE Verbs. Our next main topic (which we introduced today) is expressing the FUTURE TENSE using the verb "ALLER" (conjugated) plus the verb you are GOING TO DO (NOT conjugated).

Monday 1/16 - Friday 1/20

FRENCH:

We are wrapping up using the verb ALLER ("to go"), expressing "to the" and related contractions, and all the events and locations on Vocab. List 5A. We also added a discussion of expressing WHO you are going somewhere with: with me, you, him/her, us, "y'all," and them. Most of these pronouns are fairly straight-forward, but some are tricky (see end of ALLER Powerpoint in last week's blog post).

QUIZ ON FRIDAY 1/20!!! ALL events/locations (know gender!), ALLER, "to the" and "at the," with me, you him/her, etc.

ORIGINS OF LANGUAGE:

We continue to enjoy learning basic communication in Spanish. We learned the alphabet, with a song that goes along with it to help memorization. We have learned how to greet, ask someone how he/she is doing, his/her name, and say goodbye! We will also be learning how to count from 0-20 this week.

Tuesday 1/10 - Friday 1/13

FRENCH:

Theme 5 is all about GOING PLACES! We are learning how to say many different locations and events around town in French... the movies, library, grocery store, mall, and much more. We've been practicing our new Vocab. by doing various activities in class such as guessing locations based on activities given by a partner, and describing a map to a partner for them to draw.

ORIGINS OF LANGUAGE:

Bienvenidos!!! Welcome to our new unit on SPANISH! In the 3rd 9-weeks, students will learn basic greetings, counting to 20, days, months, and much more in Spanish. We will also learn about where Spanish is spoken in the world, the history of Spanish colonization, Spanish culture, and much more. Later in the 9-weeks, we will read "Baseball in April" and "Lupita Manana," both written by Spanish-speaking authors.

REMINDER: You must bring back your Independent Reading approval sheet signed by a parent by Friday!

Monday 12/5 - Friday 12/9

FRENCH:

Now that we can talk about our homes (rooms, furniture, etc.), we are continuing with Theme 4 "At Home" by learning how to talk about CHORES that our families do around the house. We are also learning how to express how often people do activities - words like "sometimes," "always," "never," "often," etc.

ORIGINS OF LANGUAGE:

We wrapped up our discussion of Roman architecture. There was an open-notes classwork matching worksheet (see below!), and then we moved on to Roman entertainment! We watch football, go to movies, and so on... but what did Romans do in their free time? We read about events in the Colosseum, the Circus Maximus... even elaborate public baths were a major attraction for the Romans!

FRENCH:

We are continuing this week with our new Theme 4: A la maison! (Home Life). We will review and recycle the main ideas of the first section of the Theme - rooms of a house, furniture and other items in a house, and using prepositions to describe where items are located in relation to each other.

Monday 11/7 - Friday 11/11

FRENCH:

We started off the week with Quiz Theme 3B (adjectives, adjective agreement, possessive adjectives, and telling time). On Wednesday, be ready to be productive on your "Présentation Orale!!!" This means writing your script, working on a poster/scrapbook or Powerpoint, etc.

IMPORTANT REMINDERS: Presentations are Thursday 11/10 and Friday 11/11.

Theme 3 Test will be on Tuesday 11/15

ORIGINS OF LANGUAGE

We started off the week with a review discussion of the symbols and Latin/Roman influence on the American dollar bill. Next, we worked with our spoken Latin a little bit and played charades briefly. On Wednesday, we will do more activities with spoken Latin and review.

Monday 10/31 - Friday 11/4

FRENCH:

This week we will focus on DESCRIBING PEOPLE, reviewing Adjective Agreement, and adding lots of new adjectives to our French vocabulary. We are wrapping up Theme 3 by learning how to TELL TIME!

Monday HW = Compare/Contrast 3 pairs of people (2 family members, 2 friends, and 2 celebrities).
